Shadow, a handsome, sleek black cat of about two years, came to us as a timid stray, wary of the world and its noises. For weeks, he preferred the comfort of a cozy box to open spaces. But with the patience and gentle care of his foster family, he has made incredible progress. The Shadow of today is a different cat—one who has learned that a soft hand means comfort, not fear.

What Shadow is Looking For

Shadow is seeking a calm, quiet home where he can continue to build his confidence. He would be happiest with a patient owner who understands that trust takes time to build. While he may be shy at first, once he knows you're one of the good ones, his affection is boundless. He'll greet you with a soft, rumbling purr and gentle head-butts that will melt your heart.

• Other Pets: He has co-existed peacefully with the calm resident cat in his foster home and may do well with another feline friend after a slow introduction.
• His Favorite Things: Napping in sunbeams, chasing laser pointers (a newfound joy!), and enjoying gentle chin scratches.
