The Right Cat for Your Lifestyle
Published on September 24, 2025
You've decided to adopt a cat—congratulations! The next step is finding the perfect feline friend to fit your life. Thinking about your lifestyle before you adopt is the key to a successful, lifelong match for both you and your new cat.
Your Home Environment
Are you in a small apartment or a large house? Is your home typically quiet and calm, or is it a busy hub of activity with lots of visitors? A shy, quiet cat might feel overwhelmed in a loud, busy home, while a confident, outgoing cat might thrive on the attention. Many cats do wonderfully in apartments, but a high-energy kitten might benefit from more space to roam.
Your Energy Level & Schedule
Be honest about how much time you can dedicate to your new pet. Kittens are adorable, but they are also a huge commitment, requiring lots of playtime, supervision, and training. An adult cat is often more independent and has an established personality, making it easier to know if they're a good fit. A senior cat might be the perfect match if you're looking for a calm lap-warmer who is content with a quiet life.
Family & Other Pets
Do you have young children? Look for a cat known to be patient and tolerant. Many adult cats are fantastic with kids! Do you have other pets? If so, finding a cat that has successfully lived with other animals before can make the introduction process much smoother. Our foster homes get to know each cat's personality, so we can tell you if a cat prefers to be a solo star or enjoys the company of other furry friends.
By considering these factors, you're setting everyone up for success. Our adoption application is designed to help us understand your lifestyle so we can guide you to the perfect companion. The right cat for you is out there waiting!
